IMEI number is a unique 15 digit code given to every phone or mobile broadband device by regulatory body in the manufacturers country. The IMEI number for your mobile phone acts as a unique identifier for that device. And no two devices will have the same IMEI, which makes it a very useful tool for tracking lost or stolen cell phones. It can also be used to check the quality of your phone and where it is originally manufactured.

If you don’t know your phones IMEI number you can retrieve it by dialing a universal code *#06# ; and your 15 digit IMEI will show up on the screen without pressing the call button.

Let’s assume your IMEI number is 23456601254321 ; Now find the middle number or the 7th & 8th numbers, that would be 01 from  IMEI 234566 01 254321 

Based on the middle number you can determine the origin of the country of the phone where it was manufactured.

How can I tell where my phone was manufactured?   

You can cross check the 7th & 8th numbers of you phones IMEI with the list provided below:

  • If the number is 00, it tells you that your phone is made in the original factory and it the best quality.
  • If the number is 01 or 10, it tells you that your phone was made in Finland and it is of high quality.
  • If the number is 02 or 20, it tells you that your phone was made in Emirates or India and it is of poor quality.
  • If the number is 03 or 30, it tells you that your phone was made in China and it is relatively of good quality.
  • If the number is 04 or 40, it tells you that your phone was made in China and it is not bad quality.
  • If the number is 05 or 50, it tells you that your phone was made in Brazil, USA or Finland.
  • If the number is 06 or 60, it tells you that your phone was made in Hong Kong, China or Mexico.
  • If the number is 07 or 70, it tells you that your phone is made in Finland and is a very good quality Nokia.
  • If the number is 08 or 80, it tells you that your phone is made in Germany and it is of fair quality.
  • If the number is 19 or 91, it tells you that your phone is made in Finland and is a very good quality Nokia.
  • If the number is 13, it tells you that your phone is made in Azerbaijan and it is of very bad quality.
